Things a house sitter should know about how to use the things at our house.
HOW TO CONNECT TO THE INTERNET
Go to the PC Named Raziel.
Raziel's monitor is located at the front of the house at the Window.
Raziel's power switch is on the tower case on the right of the desk. This
computer can be used to connect to the internet and should be used to retrieve
my email. You may wish to shut down Raziel when you aren't using it.
You should disconnect from the internet before shutting down. Go to the
Start button on the task bar and press Shutdown on the menu and Select Shutdown
on the dialog box that appears. The PC will turn itself off, but you
must turn off the monitor manually.
To retireve email, first connect to the internet by pressing the following
button on the task bar. Verio is the my internet provider..
If you successfully pressed the button, a dialog like this next picture
should display.
Just press the Connect command button, (Do not change the Username or
Password!)
A dialog should appear
informing you that the PC is dialing.
Look in the right hand corner until an icon of two green PCs appears. 
This shows that the PC is connected to the internet.
HOW TO RETRIEVE EMAIL
On the task bar press the button next to the Connect Symbol. If you
leave the mouse hover over the bar the desired button will display "Launch
Microsoft Outlook" 
After
pressing this button, the Outlook application should appear as such..
Look on the left side to ensure that the Inbox is highlighted.
Go
to the menu and select Tools, then select Send / Receive
,
and then select All Accounts.
The email
should start coming in a few minutes. Check the bottom right hand to see
when email retrieval is complete. You can then exit Outlook by Pressing
the X in the upper right corner. You can then double click the green
computer icons and press disconnect on the dialog box that appears.
HOW TO RETRIEVE PHONE MESSAGES
The answer machine has multiple
mailboxes. A light will light red on the right hand side if there are any
messages. The LCD will indicate which mailbox has messages. To
retrieve messages press the desired mailbox #, 1 for MD Enterprises, 2 for
Nicole, 3 for Kathy, and 4 for Manny. After that Press the big messages
button on the right side of the LCD display. For box 1 and 4 there is a security
code. If you are asked for the security code, enter it and then press
#. The codes are written on the white board to the right of the answering
machine. Listen to the message and write it either on the white board or
on the tablet provided.
After copying
the message, press 3 to delete the message. Repeat this until all
mailboxes are checked.
HOW TO RETRIEVE FAXES
The fax machine is setup, already,
you must ensure that there is enough paper to retrieve faxes. There is
extra paper in front of the machine just incase. Put the writing side
facing you. Just pull the paper feeder toward you to load paper.
HOW TO TURN ON CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
The Christmas lights are now on a timer. You should not have to do anything except leave things hooked up as they are. The Christmas lights should come on around 6pm and go off around 11pm.
If you want to maintain the Christmas spirit for your stay, you should turn
on the center light switch located by the front door. This switch only
controls the star in the office window.
The next thing to do is to go outside and look to the left of the door if you
are facing the house front door. You should see a small metal box. 
Open the box to reveal an extension cord plug. Do not unplug the black cord,
since this controls the lawn lights through a timer.
The
green extension should light the left side of the house as pictured except for
the gutter lights.
The remote control should be used to power on the remainder of the
lights. 
Switch #1 will activate
the lights on the gutters and the right side of the house as shown.
To turn off the lights simply reverse the process. Unplug the green extension, Press #1 off on the remote or a base X-10 contol unit, and turn off the middle wall switch.
HOW TO ON THE DISHWASHER
Go to the dishwasher and load it,
add detergent, put the door lock in the right position, and turn the knob to
Start.
HOW TO TURN OPERATE THE TV/VCR/SATELLITE/STEREO
The TV is connected to the cable
box, VCR, satellite dish and surround sound.
The control boxes are all on top
of the Television set. Even the speaker has an IR receiver for the
surround sound.
The RCA remote is used to change
the channels and get the menu for the satellite. You can use the up/down
keys, guide key, info key, and clear key. You can also use the numbers to
go to a channel directly. Just press the big red button on the top to turn
on/off the satellite receiver.
The Jensen remote operates the
surround sound and volume. You should use this to lower/raise the volume
and press mute. You do not have to turn the power on or off, this is
handled by the system itself automatically. If you use the VCR, you will
need to press the VCR button. The LD button is used for the satellite.
The Hitachi remote is used to
control the TV. Just press TV then power to turn on/off the TV. You
should also use this remote to operate the cable box. You can press the
cable button then press the channel up/down button and it will start the cable
box. Press cable then power to turn the cable box off. If you need
to operate the VCR, you can do it from here, slide the lever on the right down
and it will display VCR controls. The only other button of importance is
the input button in the lower left. This determines where the TV gets its
signal, which can be - cable box, satellite dish, direct cable connection, or
VCR.
HOW TO OPERATE THE TV IN THE MASTER BEDROOM
In the master bedroom, the TV is controlled by first turning on the cable box, because the TV is plugged into the cable box. Use the VCR remote to control the channels. Just turn off the cable box and VCR when finished. Don't turn the TV off by the knob.
WHERE ARE THE CORDLESS PHONES
One phone is in the office by the answering machine, another is in the window
behind the couch.
HOW TO ADJUST THE TEMPERATURE IN THE HOUSE
The thermostat is located in the
hall. Switch from heat to cool when necessary. Adjust the
temperature by pressing the up/down arrows. Clean the filter if indicated
by the thermostat. Press the filter button to reset the filter display.
HOW TO ADJUST THE TEMPERATURE IN THE WATERBED
The thermostat for the waterbed is
located on the right side if you are facing the bed. Do not turn it to low
because the bed will get very cold very fast. Do not turn it too high to avoid
overheating the bed.
WHICH COMPUTER STAY ON
Tabris is the file server. It
should remain on.
Raziel is the internet machine, and
it may stay on if you like. If you want to shut it down when finished with
it you may.
WHERE ARE THE KITCHEN ITEMS
Drinking cups are in the cabinet to
the left of the freezer.
Bowls and
coffee cups are to the left of the sink.
The
pantry has garbage bags and other stuff. Utensils are located in the
drawer to the left of the stove/oven.
WASHER AND DRYER
The washer and dryer are in the
utility room, and the detergent, bleach and fabric softener are on the shelf
above them.
WHERE CAN I KEEP MY THINGS
The Chester-drawer in the middle
bedroom can be used to put clothing in, and in the water-bedroom there is a
stand-up closet of sorts.
